Jumpstart! Raffle Raises Over $300 for Rebecca’s Gift

Thanks to all of you who supported JumpStart! and Rebecca’s Gift at the open house on August 23rd!

 From the staff at JumpStart!:

REBECCA’S GIFT is a foundation very close to our hearts at Jumpstart! The organization was started in memory of our sweet gymnast, Rebecca Meyer, who was taken from us too early due to an aggressive form of brain cancer. REBECCA’S GIFT provides healing to families suffering  from life altering tragedies through the form of family vacations. There are so many wonderful organizations out there to help assist the hardship that comes with an extremely sick child, but as the Meyer family found, once the child loses their fight it seems the family is left to pick up the pieces of their life on their own. They found that a time when they were able to heal the most was when they had uninterrupted time together on vacation. Please help us raise money to help with the healing process of other families who have just lost a child.

The raffle and dunk tank raised $331 for Rebecca’s Gift, wow!  Special thanks to the coaches who were willing to get dunked for Rebecca’s Gift!

For those who didn’t attend, the raffle prize was a FREE YEAR of Classes.  If you didn’t win this time, try again for the silent auction prize donated by Jumpstart! at the Rebecca’s Boardwalk fundraiser on November 15th, 2015.

Seth’s Tikkun Olam – Repairing the World

Rebecca’s Gift is honored to be selected by Seth Rosky as his Tikkun Olam project for his Bar-Mitzvah.  Below, he shares his thoughts on why this was important to him.

Seth Rosky

Hi, my name is Seth. I decided to perform this mitzvah because my mom plays mahjong with Kat and I thought this situation was very sad.  I kept hearing about the hard days after Rebecca passed away and wanted to do something.  I am donating $500 in Rebecca’s honor.  I wanted to achieve this after my Bar-Mitzvah because I finally had enough money to do it.  I am doing this for a purpose; I want to help heal lives and make them better.  I also want people to live their lives and not regret them.  Thank you for this opportunity.

Jamie and Andie’s Tikkun Olam – Repairing the World

Rebecca’s Gift is honored to be selected by Jamie and Andrea Fields as their Tikkun Olam project for their B’nai Mitzvah.  Below, they share their thoughts on why this was important to them.

 Jamie Darah Fields

For our Tikkun Olam project Andie and I chose to honor Rebecca Meyer and the charity created in her memory called Rebecca’s Gift.

Rebecca was someone I only met a few times. BUT, she left a strong impression!  Rebecca was sassy, silly, and so cute!  Rebecca passed away from brain cancer on her 6th birthday. The charity for the siblings left behind. For the survivors of the loss of a sibling, to begin the process of moving forward. To provide vacations for the families so they can begin to make new memories and create a new “norm”!   As much as I fight with my sister Andie and brother Erik….I couldn’t and wouldn’t want to imagine life without them. They are my safe place that I can go to, and be myself!  I think that this means so much to me because I know Joshua and Carolyn and can’t even imagine what they are going through.

My Bat Mitzvah is not just about me…It is about me learning what it means to be a Jew. Being a Jew is about helping others.   I hope you can help me do just that!

Andrea Graysen Fields

Tikkun Olam means repairing the world…If I can help repair someone’s heart just a little with a vacation to begin healing and accepting their new lives without their sibling…well, then that to me is a mitzvah I’d love to do!

Like Jamie said, I too only met Rebecca a few times. BUT, I always talked to her when Jennifer, my big cousin, was watching her. Rebecca always made me laugh!  My sister and my brother Erik are my world! Truly! They help me hear things (because I am deaf). They watch out for me. They protect me! They really are my world. I can’t begin to imagine how Carolyn and Joshua feel.   If this helps others like them…then I feel like we are doing a great thing!
